Bequia Arts and Crafts

Model boats and crochet, stained glass and scrimshaw, coconut craft, pottery, hats and handbags, stories, music ad poems, batik, paintings on canvas and silk, on wood, boleys and bones (whale bones).. makes for an eclectic mix. Local and a few transported resident artisans offer their works for sale in Port Elizabeth's shops, market place and the main gathering area around the ferry dock.

Model boat building can be seen at Withfield Sails & Model Boats, Mauvin's and the Sargeant Brothers workshops all producing well crafted and colourful replicas of shaleboats and schooners.

SPRING Spring Pottery & Studios A working pottery and gallery exhibition of ceramics, paintings and local arts and crafts, all housed in the sympathetically restored ruins on the old Spring sugar mill buildings. Resident potter Mike Goddard and his partner artist Maggie Overal have created a wonderfully sympathetic environment for the creation and display of their own work, and that of other local artists. All works are for sale, and commissions are welcome.

ON THE AIRPORT ROAD

The BoatHouse, near Friendship Model boats-that-sail by Kingsley "Prop" King, paintings by L.D. Lucy, island souvenirs. Lucy's magical, mystical paintings have attracted widespread acclaim and many now hang in Bequia homes and international collections.
